Emerson Launches GenAI Virtual Advisor for Power, Water Automation

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Instrumentation and Controls Water and Wastewater Management

Emerson, global industry experts in advanced automation solutions, has introduced the Ovation™ AI-enabled Virtual Advisor — the first generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) advisor integrated into an automation system specifically designed for the power and water industries.

Part of Emerson’s Ovation 4.0 Automation Platform, the AI-enabled Virtual Advisor delivers real-time insights to increase efficiency, detect anomalies, forecast maintenance issues, and support strategic decision-making — helping operators address challenges faster and more effectively.

Via entirely natural language interaction, the Emerson Ovation Virtual Advisor seamlessly integrates localized GenAI to provide dynamic system guidance and contextual support. This enables users to access Ovation system documentation quickly, perform troubleshooting as needed, and proactively identify and address maintenance issues. Drawing from Emerson’s extensive domain expertise in power and water and as part of a growing suite of Emerson’s AI-based tools, the new system supports future AI-powered capabilities that can help optimize processes and improve equipment performance.

“As they navigate greater demand, complexity and climate variability, operators of today’s critical infrastructure need intelligent systems to deliver reliable power and clean water,” said Bob Yeager, president of Emerson’s power and water solutions business. “Using GenAI, our Ovation Virtual Advisor will help customers more efficiently manage these essential systems through clear operational awareness, automated routine tasks and advanced data analysis. Intelligent systems help improve reliability and extend the life of existing infrastructure, paving the way for more consistent, sustainable operations.”

Secure by design, the advisor uses local, pre-trained AI models based on Emerson and customer-provided system information that capture qualitative behavior at the control layer to ensure safe and accurate results. The AI models can be further customized with domain-specific data and operator feedback, enabling better operational and business decisions for a competitive advantage.

Emerson’s Ovation 4.0 platform with the GenAI-enabled Ovation Virtual Advisor is available for both new installations and system upgrade projects.
